Job Description:
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is looking for a Convergent Journalist to act as the Caravan (student newspaper) advisor. This is a position for a journalist or academic with convergence expertise who can help the already strong journalism program to advance further. Reporting to the Department Chair, the lecturer will also teach basic and advanced courses in reporting/writing/, journalistic practice and courses such as copy editing, feature writing or investigative reporting, depending on expertise. Also expected are contributions to department and university service, student advising and student activities.
Requirements:
Master's degree in journalism or a closely-related discipline. Minimum of ten year's significant professional journalism experience. Excellent communication skills. Familiarity with issues and applications relating to convergent media. Candidates should have journalism experience, and ideally possess multimedia skills, including videography, audio, web development, photography and visual storytelling. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in journalism or a closely related discipline. Some college/university-level teaching experience. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and professional service. Media management experience. Editing and/or design experience.
